The Invention of the Mega Hat

Monday, August 29th, 2011
It’s that time of year again folks. Football season is here!! Yup, that rumble and tumble of a sport that fills every Friday, Saturday, Sunday, Monday (let’s face it, everyday) of our lives during the fall months. It involves strength, endurance, teamwork, muscle, blood, sweat and tears and we love it! But how are the top teams in Austin gearing up for the season? By upping the ante on their Hat Creek burgers. It’s Saturday and the annual Westlake Carnival is in full swing as forty Westlake football players huddle around the Hat Creek tent. Hungry and in need of some serious meat, the players call out for a classic Big Hat burger to satisfy their cravings. HC employees crank out the usual deliciousness until one incredibly intelligent player asks, “Can you put another patty on that?” The clouds parted and the angels sang as the Mega Hat made its way into the Hat Creek world. At this, the Hat Creek tent became a sudden feeding frenzy and the Mega Hat became the burger of choice. The Mega Hat is not for the faint of heart, but if you are up for challenge, we say go for it! The fact of the matter is whether you’re rooting for Westlake or your favorite high school team this season, you can rest assured that beefy burgers are keeping your boys well fed and ready for kick-off!

Yes, it is true that a Blue Bell ice cream milkshake completes the perfect meal at Hat Creek Burger Company. That rich, creamy goodness blended with your favorite flavor, nothing is better. But, where did the milkshake come from? What genius mind knew that such flavors mixed together would create the ultimate summer treat?

In an attempt to give you some fun facts to fill your summer days and maybe to whet your appetite for a Hat Creek milkshake (like that is hard to do), we stumbled upon this article, The History of the Milkshake (http://www.ehow.com/about_5377871_history-milkshake.html). We think you will find some pretty interesting things in there. Like did you know the first milkshakes were made with whiskey instead of ice cream? Or did you know people used to call milkshakes “velvets” in the 1950s? So, check it out and let us know what your favorite milkshake flavor is!

This September Hat Creek Burger Co. will be opening store number three! The new location is in Westlake at the corner of Highway 360 and Bee Caves Road, the previous home of the iconic pink flamingoes. In addition to our daily, hand-pattied hamburgers and fresh-cut fries Austinites have grown to love, the third Hat Creek will also serve beer and wine and have a play yard for youngsters in order to take Hat Creek fellowship to an all-time high. So, if you’re into burgers and beer check out these pics to follow the construction progress. [gallery]
